DELTA NUJ PRESS WEEK: Journalists Charged To Uphold Truthful Reportage

Journalists in Delta State and Nigeria at large have been charged to uphold the tenets of truthful reportage in carrying out their journalism practice.
This charge was issued yesterday by the Delta State Governor Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori in Asaba the State Capital during this year Nigeria Union Of Journalists Delta State Council Press Week with theme ‘Imperative of Proper Leadership Recruitment Process For Good Governance’.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Chief Monday Onyeme, however commended Delta Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists for their collaborative roles in reporting accurately the activities and programmes of the state Government.
The Governor therefore, sue for synergy between media practitioners and Government Agencies with the view of moving the State forward.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Christopher Biose, a veteran Journalists, challenged Journalists to remain steadfast in the journalism profession .
Chief Biose stressed the need for journalists to practice developmental journalism where truthful reportage takes the centre stage.
He caution journalists to perform their duties without fear or favour as fourth estate of the realm that hold other tiers of government accountable.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Chairman of Delta Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, stated that Council deliberately chose this years’ theme to underscore the critical need for transparent and credible electorial processes.
Comrade Oyowe therefore, urged journalists to put thier wealth of experience to bare in the performance of informing and educating the public.
He however,expressed gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his Head of media team, the Commissioner for information Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza for thier support.
In a keynote lecture presentation, the group Panelist led by Professor Kingsley Mrabure of Delta State University, Barr Bridget Anyafulu, member of the Delta State House of Assembly and Comrade Sonny Neme who represented Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, agreed on validity challenge such as inability to possess the requisite experience when one occupies critical position .
They concluded that the person driving the process must be responsive with the ability to drive the process.

The ceremony was well attended by Journalists from all the Chapels in Delta State.
